Well I’m sure hoping it will be!
Ron felt like a girl changing his outfit maybe 7 times. When he found one he thought was the best and deciding to change out of that one he was ready. Looking at his watch he realized he was a little bit late and he walked faster as to not show up all sweaty and ruin any chances he has of impressing Susan. The thought made him stop worrying about his appearance as he rounded the corner to head to her. He was going out with one of his good friends. What if it didn’t work out? They were friends with a lot of the same people and if they didn’t get on and then what? He thought about this back in 6th year and 5th year and a little in 4th year with Hermione. He mentally slapped himself. He can’t think about Hermione when he was going on a date with Susan. He saw her bright red hair first and smiled. Hermione shot right out of his mind as he approached her feeling nervous about what he should say first. “heyllo.” He closed his eyes and felt himself turn red. “I mean hello!” He said quickly and leaning down to kiss her cheek.
Susan felt as though she was a little kid, waiting for Christmas to come as she stood outside the Hufflepuff common room while she waited for Ron. When he came around the corner and the first thing she saw was his bright ginger hair and the goofy little smile on his face, Susan felt her cheeks lift into a smile. She couldn’t keep it off her lips, or anywhere on her entire face. Her eyes were smiling just as big as her lips. She let out a little laugh at his greeting, feeling the butterflies and nervousness almost lift off of her shoulders. “Hi.” she said softly, almost a little shyly. He leaned down and kissed her cheek and she felt the spot where his lips met heat up slightly. She was just so nervous that she didn’t know how to handle anything, but she was so determined to make this night perfect that she would do anything to make sure she didn’t mess it up. “You look nice.” she said, nodding her head as she looked back up at him. Susan had never been on a date before, she’d barely even kissed anyone before. So this was all completely new to her, but she most definitely liked it.
Susan had been dreaming about this moment for what felt like a million years. Okay, maybe not a million. But from the moment she laid eyes on Ron Weasley, she knew there was something special about him. She couldn’t help the smile that erupted on her cheeks and lips when he was around, she couldn’t handle the way he just made her stomach fill with butterflies. And as a recent new found feeling she discovered, the way his lips felt against hers were absolutely perfect. It was as though someone made all of her wildest dreams come true in a split second, and as Susan got dressed in the best she could think of, the nerves and excitement began to bubble up in the pit of her stomach, threatening to topple over at any moment. It was a beautiful feeling though, and as Susan slipped on her sneakers, not sure whether or not she should have probably asked Hannah if she should borrow her heels (not to mention ask to teach her how to walk in them), Susan found herself smiling at the reflection she saw of herself. Her red hair seemed a little bit brighter, her curves a little more noticeable, her eyes a little more sparkly. It was as though in a split second Susan had grown up a little bit, no longer the little girl who couldn’t take her eyes off the tall, ginger hero of the war. She was actually going to be going on a date with that boy! Susan flattened out her blouse, fixed her dark jeans and made sure that her black Vans didn’t have a scoff on them at all before she left the Hufflepuff common room, nervously making her way to her date with Ron.
What makes your day so fantastic, may I ask?
Well…me and…my friend went out drinking and we had a little bit more fun than I had expected. And then he asked me on a date…so…it’s a really good day… I’ve been waiting for this for a really long time. I just never thought it would happen!
Oh, it’s nice you’re having a good day, Susan.
I’m having a fantastic day!
What happened last night?
Ron and I got drunk in the kitchen and ended up making out and…basically I told him that I liked him and he said he didn’t want to sleep with me because he was drunk but that was okay because, I mean, I freaked out about that a little bit too. But…he ended up asking me out on a date. Like…a real date!
Someone’s in a pleasant mood this afternoon.
I can’t help it! Last night was just…insane. I can’t stop smiling, I feel like a complete idiot!
I just want to paint the whole horizon, it would be amazing!
Oh, I didn’t know you painted! That’s rather fascinating.
So, where did you travel to?
Yeah, I paint and draw and all that sorta stuff. I’m not all that good, but it’s entertaining so I guess it’s not a bad thing.
Oh, nowhere really. Just did a few touristy things around London that I’ve never got to do before. We actually managed to drive through Ireland a bit, which was probably my favourite part.
Ron’s eyes bulged for a second before he burst out into laughter. He let go of her and bent over holding on to his stomach. It was funny but not a “holy fucking shit im crying.” kind of funny it was a more, “I can’t believe this beezy actually said that about little ronald.” When he stopped he stood up and took a deep breath and changed the subject. “How about we do this right? You and me, go on a date?” He smiled and felt his stomach drop as he said this, how was he so confident right now?
She laughed while he laughed, happy that he wasn’t freaked out or weirded out by her yet. Or at least he had a good way of hiding it. “That’s not what I meant…” she tried to say yet again, because it really wasn’t. Although Susan really didn’t know what she had meant when she said it at all. She bit on her lip when he regained stability, and when he asked her on a date, Susan felt her stomach fill with nerves and flutters that she couldn’t even comprehend. She paused for a moment and felt her cheeks blush a little bit once again before nodding her head a few times and smiling. “Really?” she asked with a little bit of excitement. Or…maybe quite a lot. “I think that would be wonderful.” she said, the shy smile still on her face.
Yes. New beginnings, I suppose. Though, one just cannot simply forget everything in the past.
Nothing really—I had spent the summer in Australia to find my parents yet I had to leave back to England for certain reasons before I had a chance to locate them. Yourself?
Yes, that’s definitely true.
Oh, that’s too bad. I’m sure you’ll get them back eventually though, right? I mean, every spell is reversible, right? Or at least most are…
Mostly just spent it with my uncle at home, traveled around a little bit, but mostly just painted and read and all that boring stuff. Pretty uneventful, really.
Being back is okay, I suppose. I have been doing well, I’d say. At most times that is. But, oh, it doesn’t matter does it? Everything should go smoothly from now on.
Like everyone keeps saying, it’s new beginnings and all of that. Hopefully things will just keep getting better and what not…
So what have you been up to, Hermione?
Hello Susan! Yes, we haven’t seen one another for quite a bit.
How is everything?
Yeah, it’s been quite awhile. Everything is…alright. A little bit confusing. But, I mean, aside from that I’m doing alright. How are you? How is being back?
Oh hello, Hermione. I haven’t seen you for awhile…
Ron kicked himself mentally. Maybe he shouldnt have even gotten drunk tonight. The feelings are real, ron would never be that desperate to get a kiss. So obviously he wanted to continue with sudan some how but right now everything just felt complicated and nothing even happened yet. Ron groaned loudly and ran over to spin her around to face him. “Can we just pretend I didn’t day anything and go back to making out on the counter that was fun.” He smiled and let go of her. “Did I just screw everything up?” He sighed and licked his lips
He spun her around and she faced him, looking up into his blue eyes. A little smile appeared on her face, this time a little more genuine than before. It was still small, but at least this time it was real. She felt herself blush again, and then feel bad for making him feel bad. That had not been her intention at all. It was her own nerves and stupidity that was keeping her from wanting to proceed with anything, even while drunk. “No, no you didn’t screw anything up. It’s…it’s not you at all.” she gave him a soft, reassuring smile. She took a little breath and tried to clear her head, deciding just to put it all out on the line. “It’s just…I…I like you a lot, Ron. And this wasn’t how I wanted it to happen but, I mean, I’m not complaining. Because…you’re right. It was fun. And I mean I’m sure if I was any other girl I would probably have your pants off by now and doing some weird…hand thing. And believe me, I wish I was.” Susan instantly stopped and shut her mouth, her cheeks turning more pink than they had in a very long time. Her eyes bulged a little and she clasped a hand over her mouth, closing her eyes a little to try and hide her embarrassment. “That’s…I didn’t mean for it to come out like that.” she tried to say behind her hand, her voice already full of slight giggles.
Ron felt like an idiot for stopping it now. His whole body was protesting his brains idea for not reaching out and pulling her in. All he wanted to do was kiss her again but by the look on her face he wasn’t sure she wanted it. He did something similar. “Susan as much as I would love to go back with you maybe we should wait until we are both sober, I just I want to make sure you want the same thing and not hate me in the morning.” He took a deep breath.
Susan listened to him and followed along, nodding her head a little as she bit at her lip. The truth was, Susan didn’t know what she wanted. She didn’t know what she wanted at all. It just felt like that with everything suddenly happening so quickly she really didn’t know what to do. The one thing she was absolutely sure of was that she didn’t want to lose one of her best friends, and it felt for a moment like she was. Ron was never just going to be Ron anymore, at least not in Susan’s eyes after tonight. When they both sobered up the next day then she was sure there would be a blanket of awkward covering the both of them, and Susan wasn’t entirely sure she was ready for that. “Yeah…okay…” she said, nodding her head a little and forcing the smallest smile she could muster up. She teetered a little before biting at her lip again and walking back around him, heading towards the counter to grab her jacket and to put it on despite the fact that she didn’t plan on going outside. “I’ll…I’ll see you in class tomorrow, yeah?” she said, turning back to look at him and once again forcing a little smile that didn’t feel so genuine in that moment.
If Ron hadn’t of looked right at Susan, he would not have heard the last part. He stepped closer to her like it was a reflex. It wasn’t a large step but a noticeable one and his breathing was ragged again. “Unless…” He trailed off too wanting so badly to but he would not in a million years rush into it. It was that thought that slightly triggered something that he didn’t like. The feeling of being scared and not wanting to do that with Susan, yet. “What do you think?” he asked too quietly.
Susan licked her lips slowly and felt the nerves build once again. It was good nerves though, and that was the only way she would ever be able to explain it. He moved in closer to her yet again, but was still slightly out of her reach. She stood looking up at him, their height difference being more clear than usual in this moment. “I…I don’t know.” she said honestly, not having any clear thoughts in her head at the moment. Everything was just a whole mess of confusion that she didn’t think she’d understand for a very long while.
Ron licked his lips and looked down again, embarrassed. “Yeah, it would be a long walk back to my room.” The longer they stood there just holding each other the more Ron could feel the awkward creeping up on them, what were they doing? He saw she was getting more sober, and maybe that meant she was getting over this whole, kissing Ron thing. He looked back up at her and slowly backed away, “Maybe we should, get you back?” He took a deep breath noticing how different the warmness felt when it wasn’t Susan.
Susan blinked a few times, trying to see what was going on behind his blue eyes, but alas she could not, at least not in her post-drunken state. Especially after one of the most amazing encounters of her entire life, one she had only ever just dreamed about as a foolish little girl in puppy love with the boy who never noticed her. She felt him move away from her and she blinked a few times before hopping off the counter and brushing herself off. “Yeah…it’s getting late. Wouldn’t want to get in trouble…” she said, biting at her lip a little. “If you have to get back to your common room soon then you should probably go…I mean…it’s a far ways away and mine is just across the hall. Unless…” Susan started but trailed off a little, not entirely sure where she was going with that ‘unless’ but she had a small inkling, and instantly her nerves picked up before she could progress.
